Day 18 of the 31 Days Challenge from TheNester.com.
Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind and just say “Yes!”
Around lunch today my friend Ashley messaged me and asked if I’d like to go out to eat for supper. We haven’t really had a chance to walk together or talk much lately, so I really wanted to go!
My plan had been to spend the afternoon, evening and night working on cake. That’s what the “responsible” side of my brain said I should do… but my exhausted-tired-of-looking-at-dirty-dishes-and-really-need-some-fresh-air-and-girl-friend-time-side … that side of me wanted to go!
I knew I needed a break and would really enjoy the time, so I did a quick calculation in my head, called a customer to verify pick-up time, and figured I could swing a few hours out and still finish my cakes for tomorrow … so I said YES!
I put my cake decorating into high gear and finished one cake and then made progress on two others before getting dressed and out the door!
And let me tell you – I’m so glad I did!!
It’s amazing how just 3 hours out of the house without kids or laundry or dishes (or cakes) can recharge my energy and make me feel so much better! Add in a great friend, good food and conversation and it was just about perfection as far as I was concerned!
We laughed and enjoyed an amazing meal (hello Shrimp Quesadillas!!!) and just caught up on news. It was good, good stuff.
And guess what else? I got home, got back into my apron and by 11pm, I had finished the second cake. That may sound late, but truly… it’s not. Many weekends I’m not in bed before 2 or 3am when working on cakes, so 11pm is success!
The third cake doesn’t have to be finished until Sunday morning so I have all day tomorrow for that one… yay!
So – that was the highlight of my day! That and reading the Bible with one of my boys at bedtime… another time where I said “yes”! I really wanted him in bed but when he asked if we could just read ‘one more chapter’… how could I say no to that? He’s such a sweetie! 🙂
