I sorta feel like the past 2 days have been a failure on my part. My determination to not spend sort of left me. I didn’t go crazy and spend a zillion dollars or anything, but I really didn’t buckle down and say “no” when I should have.
All I can do is pick it up tomorrow and start again, right? It’s done. I can’t return the chips and ice cream and gallon of chocolate milk and the school supplies we didn’t really need. Okay – I could probably return the school supplies, but I won’t. We’ll use them. We just didn’t absolutely need them. And they didn’t fall under “food, gas, or bills”.
So here’s what I’ve spent yesterday and today. Groceries. I had just told you that we hoped to not shop again and boom – TWO.DAYS.IN.A.ROW. Ugh.
Yesterday Richy stopped because we needed Dawn and regular bread. Two things I forgot on our big shopping trip. And then I also wanted something to snack on (Ritz Chips)… and I remembered the kids asked for cheese for their sandwiches. And one of the kids overlooked the two gallons of milk in our second frig and told their Daddy we also needed milk. Boom. $22+ spent in a blink.
Today Christian had an appointment to get a checkup on his arm. Praise the Lord – he’s cleared to return to normal activity. Which I hope will not involve any more broken bones. It’s amazing how God created our bodies – especially the kiddos – to heal on their own! His bones are remodeling on their own and the doc said will be completely straight/normal in just a few more months!
I had all intentions of us getting up, eating breakfast, doing some school, eating lunch, then heading out to his afternoon appointment.
Instead we got up, I had no less than 10 phone calls, and we left for his appointment. All the other things in between didn’t happen. #FAIL
A doctor’s office called to talk about an insurance problem, which led to me being transferred two more times, then two more phone calls.
My husband called with news of a last minute business trip that will intersect with our 19th anniversary next week. I needed to find hotel rooms and if I am to go with him (like he asked me to 🙂 ), and arrange child care.
Then I had to call and cancel some other commitments and nail down some final details on a wedding cake coming up this weekend… I had sort of forgotten to get an address for the reception…oops.
SO – I got to Natchez around 1pm for his appointment with hungry, cranky kids. In the rain. And I was a hungry, cranky Mommy.
The appointment took around 40 minutes so by nearly 2pm, the kids and I were were starving. McDonalds/Taco Bell – here we come. I was so frustrated and tired… I didn’t even try to think of a frugal way to handle the situation… so we spent $37.42 on lunch.
After that, Richy told me we needed to go by Walmart to buy ant spray because we had a trail of ants on the porch coming into the house. Do you know what I did? I went into Walmart and spent $53.59 and forgot the danged bug spray!! WHaaaT?!
Instead I bought ice cream, cereal, sardines (for our sick kittens), drinks (for Joshua and Richy for work), and some other odds and ends. FIFTY BUCKS – and I didn’t get what I needed.
I don’t even wanna talk about it – I’m so disappointed in me. I know, I know – in the grand scheme of things this is not a big deal and we’re still way under budget, but man… it’s still not fun to feel like I failed today.
So I’m off to bed now. Hoping tomorrow is better!
