Today I’m sharing my June 2016 Blog Income Report. I’ve really slacked on posting here at Rose Atwater the past few weeks but I’ve really loved doing these monthly checks on my income (for my own benefit and hopefully yours too), so if I don’t blog anything else here – I want to blog my income reports!
Scroll to the bottom for links to my previous months’ income. Why am I sharing? Well, several months ago, over on Rose Bakes, I wrote a post about how to make money blogging (specifically with a food blog, but most of my info would apply to any blog). Then back in January, I wrote a post on how I made almost $37,000 blogging in 2015. Both of those posts got a lot of attention.
In addition to that, I’m always talking about finances with someone. I love to talk about budgeting, saving, making money online, paying off debt, blogging, etc. And ya’ll… when I say I love it, I mean I love it. I get as excited about that stuff as I do about cake. Haha!
Yes, I am a nerd. (I absolutely love math! 😉 )
Anyway, since my previous posts about blogging and money and income have been popular and I absolutely love reading other blogger’s income reports, I figured I’d jump on that bandwagon and start sharing my income reports. My hope is to inspire, encourage and help other bloggers increase their income… or help someone else jumpstart a blog so they can start earning online as well!
And maybe… just maybe, I’ll start blogging about all the other money related stuff that I love too… like how to budget, how to stay out of debt, how to plan for emergencies, etc. What do you think?
Okay, so without further delay… here is it is:
June 2016 Blog Income Report (this includes both of my blogs although most of it comes from Rose Bakes).
June was a really good month as far as income goes. By all stats, it was my lowest traffic so far this year, yet my greatest gross and net income. How did that happen?
First, let’s talk traffic. I’m not devastated by the lower traffic and I’ll tell you why. It’s summertime and traffic is known to be low for bloggers across the board. This is not 100% true for all bloggers, but people are outside during the summer – vacationing, enjoying the sunshine, participating in sports, etc. instead of sitting on their computers or phones reading blogs. So for most bloggers, traffic numbers take a dip in the summer months.
Surprisingly though – even with my lowest traffic month of 2016, my gross income is at it’s highest ever – finally topping $5000!
One reason – I finally landed a few sponsored posts again – three to be exact. Since I’ve been doing sponsored posts for less than a year, maybe this sort of ebb & flow with sponsored posts is normal and I need to reevaluate my expectations.
I also continued to hustle on my affiliate programs (mostly Craftsy & Flirty Aprons through Shareasale). Adthrive also tweaked my ads again which boosted my ad income to it’s highest per pageview. Add in a few other random streams of income and things really stacked up.
May’s expenses were also half of what I spent in June. I told you in May that I intended to cut my expenses dramatically and YAY – I was successful! My goal was to get them below $750 and somehow I managed to get them get them below $700. That’s a serious WIN in my book for the month of June.
