Today I’m sharing my April 2016 Blog Income Report. My gross income almost reached $5000 for April, but my expenses were also up which made my net income actually a little lower than last month. All is well though… I’m still very excited and encouraged at my blog’s continued growth!
Scroll to the bottom for links to my previous month’s income. Why am I sharing? Well, several months ago, over on Rose Bakes, I wrote a post about how to make money blogging (specifically with a food blog, but most of my info would apply to any blog). Then back in January, I wrote a post on how I made almost $37,000 blogging in 2015. Both of those posts got a lot of attention.
In addition to that, I’m always talking about finances with someone. I love to talk about budgeting, saving, making money online, paying off debt, blogging, etc. And ya’ll… when I say I love it, I mean I love it. I get as excited about that stuff as I do about cake. Haha!
Yes, I am a nerd. (I do have a math degree afterall 😉 )
Anyway, since my previous posts about blogging and money and income have been popular and I absolutely love reading other blogger’s income reports, I figured I’d jump on that bandwagon and start sharing my income reports. My hope is to inspire, encourage and help other bloggers increase their income… or help someone else jumpstart a blog so they can start earning online as well!
And maybe… just maybe, I’ll start blogging about all the other money related stuff that I love too… like how to budget, how to stay out of debt, how to plan for emergencies, etc. What do you think?
Okay, so without further delay… here is my April 2016 Blog Income Report (this includes both of my blogs most of it comes from Rose Bakes).
April’s income was a bit odd. I didn’t write any sponsored content for the usual companies (which made me very sad). I had had a pretty good record with them and was generally selected for 2-4 posts per month but I scored a big fat ZERO for April. I was paid for one sponsored post that will be going live in May.
Because of my lack of sponsored post income, my lack of promoting Craftsy very much, and my traffic was down a little – my “normal” income was also down.
The only reason I stayed close to my previous month’s income was due to my affiliate sales for CSMS (Cake Success Mentor Series). That income was a one-time shot (the course is only open once/year) and I’m crossing my fingers that the number will not drop. Those who purchased the series through my link have 30 days to request a refund so if that happens, I could lose some of that income.
Because I really want to keep my income on an upward track, I’m making a point to work harder in May on more affiliate sales and hoping that some of that sponsored post income will pick back up!
April’s expenses were also up quite a bit. I decided to hire out some work that I’ve wanted done for awhile and never seem to have the time. I hired a VA to make some printables for me (and some still being made) and I’m working with a ghost writer to get an ebook put together. Long term I’m also looking for ways to cut expenses if possible, but for now, I think it’s a good investment for me to get some projects started with help vs. waiting forever to get them done on my own.
