Note – unlike previous posts where I have written throughout the day (as mentioned yesterday), this post is being written at 1:30am, from beginning to end. For that reason, it’s going to be brief.
After less than 5 hours sleep, I rolled out of the bed running this morning running hard. I added some last minute touches to the way-harder-than-I-anticipated cake, then I took pictures of the cake, boxed it up, scrambled to get the kids loaded up with picnic supplies and we were out the door to go meet my best friend Kathy and her family for a little birthday celebration.
Her son celebrated his 12th birthday today and he requested to spend the day with Caleb, so we made plans to meet halfway between her house and mine at a park – just to have lunch and play.
So we were out the door around 9:45am, dropped off some cupcakes and the cake in Meadville, then got on the road to make the hour+ trip to the park. Richy didn’t get to go with us because he’s still on his crazy shift work, so it was just me and the six kiddos.
We finally got there just after noon (after stopping at Dollar General for all the things I forgot in the rush and then missing an exit). Joshua drove all the way there and back, and let me just say, I love having a teenager who can drive me around!!
Then we spent the next (nearly) 5 hours at the park!! Once again, I have a million pictures but I’m too tired to edit and post them. I’ll share this one that I put on Facebook…
Samuel loved his cake from Caleb and they had fun eating it!!
So they played hide ‘n seek, cops and robbers, had water balloon wars, made a “water slide” with cups of water, ate cake and played dart games and then with a boomerang and just all around – had a great time!
Nobody wanted to leave but Samuel was having a birthday dinner back at Grandma’s house (where they’re staying while here from Italy) and I had to get home to do an order of 100 Wizard of Oz cake pops. I can NOT wait to show you those pics!!
On our way home, we stopped for Little Caesar’s so I wouldn’t have to cook and make cake pops and I ran in Walmart hoping to find a cone-shaped mold for the witch hat cake pops (no dice!), and then we got home around 6:55pm.
The kids wanted to go to church but I knew I needed to start working so they just dropped me off with the leftover pizza and a gallon of milk I got at the store and they all went straight on to church which started at 7pm (it’s about 6 miles from our house).
I checked some email, cleaned up a work space (after going to bed at 3am and rushing out this morning, I still had a HUGE cake mess from last night), and around 7:45pm, I finally started on the cake pops. The first 60 were pretty easy… just dip and sprinkle.
OH – I should mention that Richy rolled most of them for me this morning between us leaving to go meet Kathy and 1pm when he had to leave for work… YAY for an awesome husband!!
Okay – so I dipped and sprinkled the first 60, then I started on the witch hats and the Tin Man ones. They were a little more involved. Around 12:15am, I finished the witch hats (just as Richy got home from work). He asked if he could help, so I had him “glue” (with melted chocolate) bows on the Ruby Red Dorothy cake pops while I finished up the Tin Man ones.
And here I am. As soon as I finished them (around 1:30am), I sat down to write this. Now it’s 1:45am and I’m going to BED!! I have to package these and get them to my sis to deliver for me by lunch tomorrow… along with start baking and working on all of my other orders for this week.
See you here tomorrow 😀
